Money CAN buy happiness… so why aren't you cashing in today?

⏰ 2 min. read

We have all heard this age-old saying at least once in our lives: “Money can’t buy happiness”. This saying has to be one of the most debatable topics amongst friends and family. Today, I’m here to tell you that money can indeed buy you happiness, and how you can achieve it.

Does it feel like your time and money disappear right before your eyes? A lot of us have grown up accustomed to the habit of spending our money as fast as it comes, only to soon feel the burning regret when we realize that we’ve spent a big chunk of our hard-earned money on things that seemed like a smart idea at the moment, but a horrible consequence for the near future. Whether you are a recent grad, a professional, an entrepreneur, a young professional, a business owner, or a 9–5 worker, we’ve all been there. Let us help you by teaching you how to use your money the right way, and reap the best long-term reward.

The most important place to start is by tackling your spending habits. You have to be aware of exactly how you’re spending your money by looking at the way you are currently allocating your income (what exactly is your money going to?). By adding some tweaks to your finances and finding other ways to properly use your coin, you can easily gain both financial happiness and freedom.

Start now — don’t put off your finances any longer. Save small amounts until you can afford to save larger amounts at one time. If you begin by saving a little today, you can make your life happier for yourself in a week or less! With the insight you gain after reading this blog, you will be well on your way to learning ways you can maximize your income. Here’s how you can both save and gain at the same time:

  • Experience: Have you ever wanted to learn a new hobby? I for one, have always wanted to take kick-boxing lessons. I did some online research, and was able to find a kick-ass (not literally) gym nearby that had an online special for a 10-week pass at almost half the price! Try setting aside an “allowance” for yourself to enjoy a cool new experience, and push you outside of your comfort zone at least once a season.

  • Adventure: Road trips and trips abroad give you excitement and a new perspective when you take in the new scenery, social interactions, cuisine, and climate. Look for off-season deals and cheaper modes of transportation & accommodation (like car-rentals or bed & breakfasts rather than chain-hotels and private transportation). Using some of your income specifically for adventure and adrenaline-pumping experiences in other countries can bring great joy. Nothing is better than seeing the world through a whole new lens. Vacation trips also help to clear your mind, increase productivity, provide better insight and self-reflection.

  • ‘Pay it Forward’: It’s hard not to want to give back and contribute to society by lending a helping hand. ‘GoFundMe’ and ‘CrowdFund’ are a couple of the top crowd-funding/fundraising websites that you can make either public or anonymous donations to individuals and causes that you care about or genuinely want to help with. As the old saying goes, it’s always better to give than to receive. In this, paying it forward and extending what you can give helps bring happiness on a 2-way street.

  • Food & New Escape: Implementing just one new recipe per week will not only spice up your weekly dinner routine but also introduce you to different tastes and even different cultural cuisines. Your taste buds will thank you!

  • Necessary vs. Unnecessary: How many times have you looked at your bank account from the past week and are somewhat disappointed in your spending habits? Have you been continuously swiping your debit/credit card with no regard? Anything over one impulsive purchase is too many. A major part of gaining financial freedom is determining for yourself at the moment whether what you’re about to spend your money on is a legitimate purchase. Do I need this or do I want this? I tend to ask myself a few questions when shopping online or in-store: Do I already own something that looks like this? What exactly am I buying this for? Is this a necessary purchase now, and will it be relevant to me a year from now? Money can buy you happiness, and seeing your money saved, invested, and ready for anything is bliss.

Take the challenge and switch your spending habits with what we’ve provided to you in this blog post, and see how money buys your happiness.
